There are several misconceptions youths don’t pay attention to that push them in the wrong direction…
or… throw them off the track!
And,until you & I have the right view of the ‘little things’ that matter, we might never reach our full potential.
“It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all” J.K Rowling
You might probably be one of the people in the world who believe that mistakes are for the unserious and in return, you see yourself as a failure in life. Similarly, you may constantly think that your life isn’t rosy enough compared to other people you know and see (especially the media stars) and as a result of this, you give up on the baby steps that make you GROW and move you closer to your dream, vision, and God!
If I’m not mistaken, you yearn to be yourself, stay focused on your dream(s), maximize your God-given potential, and live a fulfilled life. Right?
But,truth being told, there are many MISCONCEPTIONS and forces _in this present age_ that challenge and confront these heart desires and if care isn’t taken, you’d unconsciously give in to the things the world wants you to believe and happily settle for less!
why?, you might be tempted to ask…
Well, there are a thousand and one reasons for that! In this article, I will be sharing with you, the “major” misconceptions I had, at some point in my life , and saw people around me struggle with.
Trust me, you will surely relate with them …
Before we dive into THE VIEW that has the solution to these wrong perceptions, permit me to elucidate my point by sharing a letter that makes hearts sink…
Now that you’ve read the letter_or not_ What do you think Zoe needs to know or do? Or better still, what do you need to understand if some aspects of her letter resonate with you?
What are the major “misviewed” issues that affect young minds?
Everyone makes mistakes in life, but that doesn’t mean they have to pay for them for the rest of their life. Sometimes, good people make bad choices. It doesn’t mean they are bad, it only means they are human.
When we make mistakes, it’s very easy to beat ourselves up, right? The reality is everybody, including those we look up to and admire, makes mistakes. The reason most people tend not to expose their flaws is because of the fear of being unloved and looked down upon.
When you make mistakes, your weakness, and the areas you need to work on are recognized…
What do I mean? If you haven’t made the mistake of spending the savings you intended to start a new business on things that have brought stress into your life, you wouldn’t know how poor you are at decision making _you can’t correct the flaw you haven’t identified!
Mistakes are indications that you aren’t perfect and you still need to make some adjustments in your life in order to reach your full potential. And if you keep getting distracted from what really matters and/or finding fulfillment in things that are not congruent with who you really are or what you truly believe in because you don’t want to own up to your mistakes, you will never learn from them and grow!
Mistakes are inevitable. The more you mature in life and in Christ; the less you make ‘ridiculous’ mistakes. If you have the WRONG PERCEPTION of mistakes, you would probably keep griping and condemning yourself, you might never learn from the mistakes and get transformed.
“I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate.” Romans 7:15
If you find yourself making the same mistake constantly: find out WHY, devise a better way to prevent this mistake by reading materials or books and learning from people who might have passed through the phase you are currently in or might have even made the same mistake , have an accountability partner and PRAY! You should learn to “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you.” (1 Peter 5:7)
Cast your worries on Him, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead” (Philippians 3:13b)
We do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses (Heb. 4:15a)…
Chasing after the poisonous snake that bites us will only drive the poison through our entire system . It is far better to take measures immediately to get the poison outSteven Harvey
Mistakes aren’t to be dwelt on. You should learn your lessons and move on!!
ON TRUE SUCCESS
“Patience is a key ingredient of success” Bill Gates
Don’t be deceived by what you see or the unrealistic (and incomplete) success stories you read online; success isn’t an overnight thing! I know _ because I’ve experienced_ that it’s so easy to throw in the towel and feel like you are not doing well due to the things you see or are made to believe.
Giving up on your dream is effortless but it’s a terrible thing to look back and wished you didn’t.
True success requires clarity, discipline, perseverance, commitment, time, and careful planning
“Careful planning puts you ahead in the long run; hurry and scurry puts you further behind.”
…Before you get overwhelmed with the thoughts of:I’m not even making waves, I can’t afford the life I want, God when?..
I want you to chill and remember that extraordinary things don’t come easy; building a skyscraper requires a longer time and effort than bungalow. If extraordinary things were easy to achieve, the prefix: EXTRA–which could be time, effort, focus, and patience–wouldn’t be necessary.
You might be on the verge of giving up probably because you aren’t where you think you ought to be, your efforts aren’t showing in the results or your high expectations haven’t been met … but before you give up on your dreams, I want you to:
• Remember WHY you started
• Check your daily activities to see if they are in alignment with the goal you want to achieve; it is the little goals you achieve every day that coalesces into the bigger goal. How do you spend your time on a daily basis? How much knowledge do you gain on a daily basis?
• Observe the people you walk with . Are they time-wasters or go-getters?
“Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces… Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals”
Proverbs 13:20, 1 Corinthians 15:33
• Weigh your expectations with reality_ be realistic! I’m not against you having big and rare dreams because as it is written in Mark 9:23, all things are possible for him who believes and you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you as Philippians 4:13 says, but you must be realistic and true to yourself! As an athlete, you can’t decide to jog for 1 hour non-stop when you are still struggling with a 15 minutes jog. Don’t misinterpret me, please. You could actually get whatever you want to get but you have to be realistic and also learn to take a piece meal approach to your goals.
Maybe you are at your wit’s end and you really need more hope to hang on, permit me to share a mind-blowing success story with you: There was a young lad who didn’t start speaking until he was four, reading until he was seven and was thought to be mentally handicapped. To cut the long story short, he went on to win a Nobel Prize and altered the world’s approach to physics. His name is synonymous with intelligence. This lad is Albert Einstein
Be at rest in the Lord, renew your mind with His Word that transforms, be intentional about the things/people you follow_ either virtually or physically_ and watch everything fall into place as long as you stay true & committed to your goals and self.
“For still, the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3:)
Remember, “Wealth from get-rich-quick schemes quickly disappears; wealth from hard work grows. Dishonest money dwindles away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.” [Proverbs 13:11 _NIV, NLT]
Oops! I almost forgot to include risks and mistakes as part of the ugly but crucial success factors (I’m sorry if that caught you unawares). The truth is, mistakes are unavoidable for one who is ready to explore his/her goals. You have to be willing to take “calculated” risks to bring those dreams of yours to reality_ there’s no growth without risk.
If you have a wrong perception of difference in talents/potentials, time and season of success, you might end up trading your joy due to unnecessary comparison.
You see ehn… One thing I’ve noticed about people who compare is that they never get to see and/or appreciate their uniqueness, gifts and talents and because they don’t appreciate them, they never get to GROW, APPRECIATE and SHARE them!
How do I know?…
I once compared myself with others. I wasn’t really focused on honing my skills or growing my talent, instead, I was focused on trying to be like someone else. Trust me, it was energy-draining,time-wasting and joy-stealing!
I’m afraid that if you keep comparing yourself with others, you might never reach your full potential because the ENERGY, FOCUS, and TIME which are meant to be invested in yourself and dreams are transferred to other people’s lifestyles!
Guess what?… Your self-worth, self-esteem, and productivity would abate because you are not being you! Comparison makes you do what you don’t want to do. It makes you who you aren’t designed to be! You might be tempted to think you aren’t good enough compared to your friends/relatives or even the ‘media lifestyle’.
I have a question for you, which is: If the ugly sides of your favorite celebrities are displayed, would they still be your favorites? Or better still, would you still be glued to them? Don’t be deceived, everyone, myself inclusive, faces challenges because life itself is a challenge and the only set of people that don’t face challenges are the dead
“However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely.”
2 Corinthians 10:12 [AMP]
Whenever you are tempted to compare, remember what that you are wonderfully complex and comparison would make you blind to this complexity!
You should learn to constantly tell God “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous and how well I know it.”
If you’ve forgotten, let me bring to your remembrance that there’s a GIFT in YOU that makes you exceptional and if you haven’t found this GIFT, take the courage and time to discover yourself because “The truth of the matter is that you are worth discovering. Nobody can do it for you, and nobody will make you do it, but everybody benefits from it.” – Mich Todd
I am deeply convinced that your presence in this world is a unique present to the world. You should drop the heavy load of comparison so that you can move easily through the road of self-discovery.
ON SIN AND PAST EXPERIENCES
“For grace is given not because we have done good works but in order that we may be able to do them.”Saint Augustine
You might feel like you’ve gone too far in SIN, made too many mistakes, strayed too far from God and because of this, you conclude that God is never going to take you back but this is a lie from the pit of hell. You might have fallen short but God’s hand isn’t short to reach out to you: He has an Outstretched arm.
No matter how far you’ve gone in sin and/or made mistakes, condemning yourself won’t make any difference and the worst thing you can do is to run away from the Solution you need: Jesus “I’m absolutely convinced that nothing–nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable–absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.” Romans8:38-39 (MSB)
Instead of allowing the devil to condemn you, why don’t you approach the throne of grace with confidence in Christ so that you may receive mercy and find grace to help in times of need? Remember that you aren’t going to God based on your righteousness but you are going based on God’s Grace through the finished work on the Cross.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.” Ephesians 1:7
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2Corinthians 12:9 “
Since grace is SUFFICIENT and made much available, “what then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid!” Romans 6:15
Precious one…God wants you back! He’s ready to help you if you call on Him. “Everyone who calls, “Help, God!” gets help.” Romans 10:13 (MSB)
Drop off the weight of condemnation, and with a true heart, ask for forgiveness, confess your righteousness in Christ Jesus, and believe that He has heard you whether you feel it or not. Don’t be afraid to tell God exactly how you feel: your struggles, your doubts, your fears, whatever your worry is, cast it ALL on Him for He cares about you (1 Peter 5:7). Have spiritual leaders and friends that you can be accountable to “Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you BELIEVE, you will have it.” Mark 11:24 (NLT) Pray, commune with your Father even If you don’t feel like, don’t condemn yourself! Instead, go to God’s presence with the assurance that He will hear you; your prayers are answered based on FAITH not FEELINGS! Spend time in His word so you can know His will for your life and finally, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
Trust God, let God be God “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Babe,Guy,bro, sis… Run your race with diligence. Pour all of you into your future. Avoid comparison. Be contented but aspire for more. Be intentional about the people you walk with. Love and be kind to ALL men but don’t give total access to All. Build your relationship with men and God. Acquire knowledge; the ones related to your field especially. Face reality and build resilience. Serve others. Be you, do you, grow you and love you because, at the end of the day, trends will fade, not all friends will stay, parties would be forgotten but YOU will remain.
Remember that “in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will WIN.” 1 Corinthians 9:24
One more thing, before I drop my pen _ my hands hurts…
